What goes on Dust Man by Kaigetsudo What goes on Dust Man by Kaigetsudo
He's a real Dust Man,
Sitting in his Dust Land,
Making all his dust plans
for nobody.

Dust Man is one of my favorite Robot Masters and his theme is perhaps my favorite Robot Master theme ever.

He left a big impression on me as a kid back when I played the Gameboy version of Mega Man 3. Getting to do battle with him after treading the behemoth that was his stage was a big deal to me at such a young age. With that in mind I gotta draw some fanart to honor the memory.

FUN FACT: Dust Man's creation is credited to a 12 year-old Yusuke Murata, who is better know today for being the artist of Eyeshield 21.

"Eyeshield" 21------>"Dust" Man.

This is not a coincidence

And it should be also noted that Yusuke Murata was also responsible for the design of Crystal Man.

Don't get me wrong there are certain times I will absolutely need to go Illustrator on the drawing's ass, such as for a logo or a non-organic background.

I loved Dust Man's overall design. He was such a fun looking character, so you can imagine how disappointed I was when I saw the cartoon and how much I was upset when I saw how he looked like Metal Man with a Vacuum tacked on his back

Back around Volume 42, Nintendo Power issued a contest where Capcom was accepting robot master designs for use in future games. The two winners, from the U.S.A and from Canada, had both Wind Man and Knight Man featured in Mega Man 6.

Just out of curiosity, did you enter that contest? One of the issues had a showcase of some of the more interesting robot designs. I still think Phone Man was a hilarious idea, and the illustration was great.

Never did, I didn't even know then that capcom used fan submitted designs to make these robots.

FUN FACT: If you beat Megaman 8 you can see some fan designs that were used in later games like Mega Man Zero and Mega Man Battle Network.

I remember those from the ending of MM8. I think some of those might actually be some of the contest entries. I submitted 3 entries myself (Laser Man, Tentacle Man, Armor Man), but I was a little kid back then, so they were scribbles at best. :)

If you complete Mega Man 6, check out the entries for Knight Man and Wind Man. The names of the creators are Daniel Vallie and Michael Leader, I think. They're both from North America, from Quebec and Pennsylvania, if I recall correctly. Apparently, according to Nintendo Power, contests have been held in the past by Capcom for Japanese fans to design their own Robot Masters. Maybe if a Mega Man 11 comes along, they'll do the same?

I'm pretty sure Quebec is in Canada, but anyway...

It's pretty cool that Capcom STILL uses old drawings from old contests for modern designs. I'm sure they'll do the same for any future MM release. In fact, the development team for Mega Man Legends 3 is going to depend greatly on fan's contributions, designs and ides to make the final game.

Oh I love Dustman. I've always found a lot of emotion in this guy and his stage. It is, after all, a plant for the disposal of robots and machinery. Those first few melancholy notes of his stage theme always conjured up this image of a sort of resigned stolidity tinged with sadness, yet somehow still full of dignity. And that's what I imagine Dustman to be like.

And NO WAY was he designed by the Eyeshield 21 mangaka! That is awesome! Or as Monta would say: AWESOME MAX! Knowing that when I look at him, I can see some of Murata's free-wheeling style in his basic design. Maybe I'm just tricking myself into seeing something that isn't there, but I still seem to recognize him in Dustman.

Hot damn dude that's going deeper into the idea of that stage than I ever even imagined doing. Nice.

And, I didn't even know Murata designed him until my wife told me. THE MORE YOU KNOW, HUH?

"you can tell a person by how they get back up from failure. A loser falls down and stays down. Average people take their time getting back up, but the truly gifted get back up right away." Yusuke Murata you are one of those people. (quote from eyeshield 21) created dustman at 13

I think I like MM4 best for the same reason people like MM2: It was my first Mega Man Game. Although, you gotta give 2 credit for being the single game that defined the rest of the series.

I must stop the both of you right here.

I like 2 the most because I feel that a lot of the stage and boss designs were at their peak before it felt that they were, perhaps, beginning to stretch it a bit. Beyond 4, things got *too* ridiculous, excluding perhaps 7.

Plus, the entire soundtrack to 2 is excellent, while all the games that followed only have a few good tracks each.

I already pointed out that 2 is the root of Mega Man games today, but you are giving it too much credit. Part 3, 4 and especially 9 have excellent soundtracks, all of them on par with 2. And what do you mean exactly with things getting too ridiculous? If anything, every game beyond 2 is much easier and accessible.

Designs. 5 and 6 had incredibly silly boss and level designs where you can tell they were scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I never said 3 and 4 had poor soundtracks or designs. In fact, I said the opposite, except that whilst 2's entire soundtrack is excellent, only some of 3 and 4's soundtrack are. Gemini Man, Snake Man, Dust Man, etc.

I didn't mean to create an argument, only to point out that 2 isn't popular simply because it was people's first Mega Man. I played 3, then 4, then 2. I just happen to like a lot of 2's designs and such more. And 4 (if I remember correctly) had Skull Man and introduced charging up the buster shot.

I just liked 2's designs and music, jeez :<

Oh no no no. I didn't mean to prolong the argument nor create one either. I love 2 and it's ok for you to love it. It just seemed to me like you believed that no OST reached the ankles of 2. And I don't disagree with the fact that some of the robot masters in 5 and 6, hell, even 7 and 8 were a bit ridiculous. (I mean, seriously, Centaur Man?)
